Kelly McCrimmon joined the Golden Knights as assistant general manager for 2016–17, before becoming general manager in 2019. His place in the city’s sports history rests on building and sustaining a professional hockey organization, rather than a playing career in Las Vegas.
The foundation was Brandon, Manitoba. Across 28 seasons with the Wheat Kings, he worked as an executive, coach and owner. The Western Hockey League’s 2023 Governors Award recognized that contribution, including championship teams and a long record of developing players for the next level.
In July 2023, McCrimmon brought the Stanley Cup to Brandon after Vegas’ championship.
His October 2026 comments on the Tahoe affiliation extension show the work continuing beyond the NHL roster. Vegas, Henderson and Tahoe form a Nevada development chain. McCrimmon described prospect development and hockey’s growth as priorities, connecting the major-league team to opportunities elsewhere in the state.
